How should I clean my hardwood floors?
Mist messes with water, then dry with a Swiffer or microfiber mop. Sanitize with a steam mop, but never let the steamer sit on the wood for an extended period. Ralph Severson, the owner of FM Pro Remodeling, has had Brazilian cherry wood flooring throughout his house for nearly 20 years, and Ralph says he sprays no-wax Pledge on a dust mop to clean his floors.
Can I get my engineered wood floors refinished?
It's possible. It depends on a few key factors. If the top veneer thickness is 3mm or thicker and not textured, and if the refinishing contractor is knowledgeable/skilled, your engineered wood floors can be refinished. You also have to consider whether the engineered wood flooring is stapled, glued down, or floating. If floating, then refinishing is not ideal. Engineered wood flooring has aluminum oxide factory finishes, which are tougher to sand and require more effort. You also need to review the flatness of your floor; if it has peaks and valleys, that makes it harder to achieve an even finish with sanding equipment. On top of all that, you should have replacement planks ready for when some planks get burned (sanded too deep) during the refinishing process.

How long does wood flooring installation take?
Most wood flooring projects take one to three days to install. However, this does not include demo and removal of the old floor, subflooring preparation or repairs, and other factors. The project schedule depends on several variables. Larger or more complex layouts may take additional time. Please keep in mind that your new wood flooring will have to sit inside your home and acclimate for 3 to 5 days after it is delivered, and before installation can begin.
What types of wood flooring do you install?
We install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, exotic hardwood, reclaimed hardwood. In addition, FM Pro Remodeling install wood look tile and LVP that mimic real wood without any worries about moisture or spills.
What is the difference between solid hardwood and engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood is made from a single piece of wood and can be refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood has a layered construction that provides the moisture resistance that hardwood lacks. Solid hardwood may be refinished multiple times, engineered hardwood may be refinished 0-3 times, depending on wear and construction.
Can wood flooring be installed in basements?
Solid hardwood is too susceptible to humidity and moisture fluctuations to install in a basement. Engineered hardwood handles moisture and humidity better while still giving you the exact look and feel of hardwood. However, your best option in a basement is wood look tile or LVP that mimics hardwood. These flooring options are designed to withstand the moisture problems that are always a factor in basements.
